Frequently Ask Questions
The amount of time it takes to become fluent in French will vary from person to person. If you already have experience learning another language, it might be easier for you. A large factor will be your commitment to practicing French outside of the class. We will provide you with supplemental learning materials to help you do that.
We will determine what level is right for you during your consultation and will enrol you in the appropriate class based on that. If you find the class too difficult or too easy, just let us know and we will be happy to move you to a different class.
Quebec French may be slightly different from the French you hear spoken in other countries for a few reasons, however, the two are still able to be understood for the most part. People in Quebec have a different accent and use different expressions, idioms, cultural references, and some words that differ from how the language is spoken in other countries.
The answer to this question will largely depend on your goals and timelime. If you need to learn french for a specific purpose, such as an exam or communicating in the work place, then a private class might be the best option for you. However, you will still learn everything you need to succeed in those areas in a group class, it will just be over a longer period of time as these classes teach more generally.
Our classes are taught in English, so it is best to have a strong understanding of English prior to delving into French. However, if you know English relatively well, these classes can also strengthen your skills as we teach how to translate English grammar, verbs, words into French.
